The Llama Who Had No Pajama

The Llama Who Had No Pajama
by Mary Ann Hoberman
"Whimsical takes on the commonplace" is right! This book is a collection of poems for children. The subject of each poem varies, ranging from weather to animals to birthdays. Poems vary in length, difficulty, and pattern also. This book is a great example to kids that poems can rhyme or tell a story... or they might not do those things. Light-hearted and "fluffy," these poems stay away from serious issues and subjects, making it unlikely they would teach children any useful lessons. However, they could prove useful in inspiring imagination in conjunction with a unit on poetry. Images add slight detail to the poems but for the most part do nothing for me--they aren't particularly bold, interesting, or stricking to look at. (In fact, the cover is perhaps one of the most/only interesting images in the book. A bit of a let down, if you judge a book by its cover.)
