Possibly one of the most creatively illustrated children's books that I have read. Illustrations are a combination of collage and paint, and there is a lot going on in them. Bright colors abound. (I am a little creeped out by the main characters' noses, though.) The story in this book is definitely far out there, but children would love it! In Klutz, a clumsy family encounters many crazy adventures including becoming clowns in a circus! Playful text adds to the creativeness of this book--it winds in and out of illustrations, all over pages, goes in different directions, uses several types and sizes of font, and varies in length. Children of all ages would be entertained by this book, but keep in mind that vocabulary and text size make this one a difficult read for early elemetary students. This would make an excellent lap-book or bedtime cuddle story. One question: what is a "lumpish yokel?"
