Ugly Fish

Ugly Fish
by Kara LaReau and Scott Magoon

I've got to be honest... I don't really get this book. It is cute and has a lot of intersting literary strategies that were used in making it, but I don't really know what sort of lesson or theme that it is meant to convey. Maybe it isn't supposed to at all, but I just can't help but think that it is.

Some interesting strategies used include the movement of text--different structures of paragraphs and sentences, interaction with illustrations, going in circles, chopped up-- across the page, onomatopeoia, changes in font size, drastic background color changes, perspective changes, and more. Overall this book is well made and creative.
