More David Wiesner Greats

David Wiesner, the author of my previously blogged book Flotsam, has recieved three Caldecott Medals and two Caldecott Honors. Two of my favorite books by him are listed below. These are really quality books that I think have a definite place on my classroom bookshelves as they open up students' minds for creative thought and for a love of books.

The Three Pigs

A twist on the original fairy tale about the three pigs who are eaten by the wolf... except in this book the pigs escape from the story and explore pages in other books, inviting some friends along with them who change the ending of the traditional fairy tale! Illlustrations are very interesting and have the potential to invoke many conversations with young readers. Includes dialog between the pigs themselves!

Tuesday

Nearly wordless. The book whose end inspired David Wiesner to write The Three Pigs. In this book strange things happen on Tuesday evenings... this Tuesday, frogs can fly on their lily pads! Just like the rest of his books, the illustrations are amazing, creative, and inspire conversation.

Some other Caldecott books by Wiesner:
Sector 7
Free Fall
