Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in Her Pocket

Junie B. Jones Has a Peep in Her Pocket
by Barbara Park
My sister was an avid fan of Junie B. when she was in elementary school. (The B stands for Beatrice. Except she doesn't like Beatrice. She just likes B and that's all.) Admittedly, even though I was 5 years her elder, I liked to steal her Junie B. Jones books and read them sometimes! Her adventure and outlook on life are endearing to readers and make them want to read more about her.
This Junie B. story is one of a seemingly endless series of children's novels. Junie's stories are hilarious and entertaining; the language is very kid friendly and written from Junie's point of view. She even offers some vocabulary lessons! For example: 'rolled [enrolled] is the grown-up word for signed me up and made me go!

These are easy novels that would be good to introduce to a child (most likely a girl) who you think could benefit from becoming invested in a cute, addictive series. One concern I have though is that the book's slang, childish language could confuse children, especially in contrast to the proper English that educators might be teaching in the classroom. I say go for it, though. These are too interesting to not let students read!
