a little critter book! This one is from my personal childhood collection (just like the other little golden books on my blog).
Little Critter is a virtually endless series of easy readers for children ages 3 to 8. I find the pictures captivating; I used to spend long periods of time looking for the little mouse, cricket, or spider hidden on every page! They also play an essential role in helping to tell the story. Mercer Mayer writes his stories much like you would hear a little kid tell a story about what they did that day... including often leaving things out or exaggerating tales (hence the importance of illustrations). This book or any other from the series would be excellent for young, struggling, or reluctant readers to become invested in.
