The Gypsy Princess

The Gypsy Princess
By Phoebe Gilman
Wonderfully enjoyable for all ages! For starters, this book contains beautiful artwork that adds emormous value to the story being told. Even better are the lessons that are wrapped up in this fantasy tale. Cinnamon learns that leaving her life as a gypsy to become a princess is troubling and does not make her happy as she thought it would. Her experiences teach children that the grass is not always greener on the other side and that you should always be true to yourself; some of the most valuable things in life are not those that cost a lot of money but are most familiar to us. This tale is powerful and at times even frightening. It reminds me of a good bedtime story!
This book contains potentially numerous teachable moments and oftentimes tough vocabulary that should challenge students.
