We Were Tired of Living in a House

We Were Tired of Living in a House
by Liesel Moak Skorpen and Joe Cepeda
A playful story about three kids who are tired of living in a house. They pack their bags and set off to live in a number of places in the "wild." This book is humorous and creative--making a statement about the great things in nature. The things that the children take from each of their outdoor homes represent the beauty that they found in each place. lllustrations are whimsical and cute, adding to the sense of joy that the children appear to gain from their short stay in each oudoor home. Featuring layers of vibrant colors and numerous hidden details, the pictures add more to the story than what is included in the text itself, but that's not to say that the text isn't wonderful. Descriptive, nostalgic, poetic, and repetitive, the text of the story builds upon itself as the plot moves along. This picture book would definitely have a place in my classroom curriculum.
