Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears

Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears
retold by Verna Aardema
A non-fiction book based on the West African tale of how the mosquito came to buzz around in people's ears. I am not sure how I feel about this book. Clearly someone finds it excellent as it is an award winner, but I find it long and exhausting. It is one of those children's books that could take quite a while to read. Nonetheless, the vast amount of onomatopeoia is an amazing feature for children, and the story does tell a lesson about the problems with making assumptions before getting all the details, and a lesson about guilt. (Although I firmly believe the iguana started it not the mosquito!)
