My good friend has this very cute obsession with penguins, so now anytime I see something penguin, I check it out... the verdict is in, and this book is adorable! The pictures are done in watercolor and look so cool, literally. The soft icy blue and purple backgrounds make me feel as if I am in the ice and snow with Pete. The story's plot itself is simple and fun. Pete can't swim in the ocean because he's too small, he makes a friend, he's sad when his friend moves away, and then he is finally old enough to dive into the ocean with the larger penguins. Like I said, simple. But still cute. Penguin Pete is a feel good book that I recommend for early elementary-aged children.
