17 Things I'm Not Allowed to Do Anymore

17 Things I'm Not Allowed to Do Anymore
by Jenny Offill and Nancy Carpenter
The absolute best part about this book is the images! The illustrator uses collage as the medium for her artwork and it really makes this book memorable. Many more details pop out at me each time that I look at it. And the movement of the text goes right with the free-style, playful pages. Repetition of phrases are helpful here when reading with a child.
The fiesty little girl in this book gets in trouble throughout her day and lists 17 things that she has been told she can no longer do... but most of the things that she is "not allowed to do anymore" are not really that bad, nor are they harmful to anyone (except maybe setting a boy's shoe on fire with a magnifying glass! Yikes!). Her ideas are just functions of her imagination and I imagine, her energy. I get a kick out of the things she does!
