The House in the Night by Susan Marie Swanson
I used this book with a first grader whom I have been working with for three weeks now and who has previously refused to read with me. I chose this book to make another attempt at reading because of its repetition of words, short sentences, and large text. My goal was to find an easy reader that was still interesting so that she'd feel she could succeed... and it worked! The black, white, and yellow pictures, loosely representative of Starry Night, are twinkly and gorgeous. This can readily become a go-to-favorite!
